Our PINE FOREST
Our campsite is nestled in the Historic Pine Forest of Donoratico, in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci, which is listed among the “natural beauties of the Province of Livorno” and protected by the Superintendency of Pisa. The pine forest dates back to the early 1900s and boasts many centuries-old trees, whose grandeur and morphological characteristics can be admired. Over the years, continuous plantings of pine trees and holm oaks (Quercus ilex) have helped expand the forest, which consists mainly of Pinus pinea and Pinus halepensis, allowing us to offer our guests a natural setting characterized by “the sea and the forest”, a combination appreciated by all lovers of nature and the outdoors.
Over the past year, hundreds of plants of many native and/or naturalized species have been introduced to increase biodiversity.
The campground takes the utmost care and attention in maintaining its tree population; starting this year, we have implemented a “Tree Management Plan” in accordance with the Aretè Protocol, which will also allow visitors to examine the morphological and physiological characteristics, as well as the ecological value, of many plants.
